THE STATEMENT

Winterreise

 Winterreise (Winter Journey) is a song cycle for voice and piano by Franz Schubert set to 24 poems by German poet Wilhelm Müller. 


Performed by Ian Bostridge (tenor) and Julius Drake (piano).  


Complicité

Complicité is a British theatre company founded in 1983 by Simon McBurney, Annabel Arden and Marcello Magni. Its original name was Théâtre de Complicité. The company is based in London and uses extreme movement to represent their work, with surrealist imagery. Its work has been influenced by Jacques Lecoq.  

ZERO DEGREES

Choreographed and performed by Akram Khan & Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. 


Designed by sculptor Antony Gormley.

Music by composer and producer Nitin Sawnhey.

A production from the National Theatre 


Michael Sheen, Karl Johnson and Siân Phillips feature in the acting company breathing new life into Dylan Thomas’ poetic masterpiece.

JOHN

JOHN was co-produced by the National Theatre of Great Britain, Biennale de la Danse de Lyon, La Villette, Paris, Théâtre de la Ville and Festival d'Automne Paris, Dansens Hus Stockholm, Dansens Hus Oslo and DV8 Physical Theatre, with an additional contribution from Le Grand T, théâtre de Loire-Atlantique and le lieu unique, scène nationale de Nantes. 

L.O.V.E

As part of the company’s 25th Anniversary celebration, VOLCANO recreated L.O.V.E., Nigel Charnock’s extraordinary staging of Shakespeare’s Sonnets, with a new generation of performers for 2012 and beyond. 

THE COMPETITION

The competition is a 'poetry theatre' competition in which the poem is staged as part of a combined arts performance. We accept dance, music, and theatre submissions. Poems can be original or existing works (copyright must be sought prior to submitting).

Entry & Prizes

 Cost of entry is £10, however we very much accept whatever is affordable to the individual/group. Please send queries to submissions@thepomegranatelondon.com


  • No limit on entries
  • The winner receives £500 and their piece performed in the 2024 festival at The Cockpit Marylebone
  • 2 runner-ups receive a rehearsed reading at the 2024 festival   

Submissions

Entries should include:


  • A treatment outline
  • Sample text (not necessarily the entire work)
  • A short film if available/appropriate of the initial ideas in action (a professional production of the piece is not required). We also accept poetry/text with stage directions.
  • Biographical details.

Entries should be: 


  • Planned for a 10–15-minute performance 
  • For 2-4 performers (can include the poet) 
  • Suitable for a small theatre space (performer driven, not design driven)
